Faculty-Industry Attachment Programme (FIAP)
NEW INITIATIVE BY BOPT(ER), KOLKATA
Board of Practical Training (ER), Kolkata has developed a Faculty-Industry Attachment Programme (FIAP) for high quality professional development that will enable academic faculties to keep abreast for a rapidly growing knowledge base in education. Earlier, the Faculty Development Programmes were confined into classrooms, laboratories and workshops. Departing from this earlier practice, FIAP intends to further develop the faculty by a process of introducing and interacting with them in the domain of real industrial world. The purpose is to expose the real and rapid changes happening in the overall industrial world (as well as in the services sector) to the faculty members so that they can pass-on their learning to the students. Moreover, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) have changed the functionality of the industries in a major way. This real and practical knowledge often remain outside the reach of the faculty members who did not find such modules during their earlier learnings. Therefore, this programme will be a win-win situation for both the faculty members and the industries as because the faculties can prepare their students in this background who would be appropriately skilled manpower for the industries.
Primarily, FIAP is launched as a pilot project in partnership with 3 reputed industries viz. (i) M/s Tata Steel Ltd., Jamshedpur, (ii) M/s Eveready Industries, Kolkata, (iii) M/s Aunwesha Academy, Kolkata. The programme is self-financed and is designed and implemented with a continuing basis requiring substantial commitment of faculty time and knowledge.
